Now that you have your Soundex code, go to the Federal Population Census page to find the census you wish to consult (only 1880-1920 are Soundexed). Within each census you must find the state in which the person lived. Soundex codes are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname. Please note that some immigrant and passenger arrival lists are also coded in Soundex.
